Each Five Star Family Day Care Scheme in NSW is licensed through the Department of Community Services and is required to adhere to the Children’s Services Regulations 2004.

Adherence to the Regulations is monitored by trained Coordination Unit staff who visit and support the carers on a regular unannounced basis.

Each Five Star Family Day Care scheme has a set of Policies and Procedures, which are written in consultation with stakeholders and are a supplement to the standards of the Regulations.

The Regulations cover several areas of compliance and state the Standards by which each scheme must operate. Some of the areas covered are

  • Facilities required by the carers
  • Minimum equipment required
  • Safety
  • Child ratios
  • Excursions
  • Emergencies
  • Record Keeping and confidentiality
  • Minimum Policy requirements
